Smiling, frowning, laughing—our expressions show the world around us how we feel, and they create a sense of who we are. Over time, they also leave behind lines that can make us feel anything but ourselves. Thankfully, neurotoxin injections near Toledo, when administered by trained experts, fight those lines without compromising your ability to express!
To diminish the effects of aging and to prevent lines, wrinkles, and lax skin from forming on the forehead and upper face, Blush Aesthetics is proud to offer Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin injections.
BOTOX, Xeomin, and Dysport
Botox and other neurotoxins are developed from a purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A), which temporarily blocks certain chemical signals from nerves responsible for causing muscles to contract. With expertly placed injections from trained practitioners, the neurotoxin (also called a neuromodulator) relaxes specific facial muscles. This softens the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles, which develop from repeated facial expressions.
These neurotoxin injections have become some of the most frequently performed aesthetic treatments in the United States.
Why do facial movements lead to wrinkles?
Facial muscles are different from other muscles because they attach to the skin—this allows our faces to be expressive. Most other muscles attach to the bone. When facial skin moves in the same ways repeatedly, wrinkles form. Dynamic wrinkles fall into the following 8 categories:
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Frown lines, the “11” lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet at the outer corner of the eyes
- Bunny lines at the side of the nose
- Radial lip lines, the small vertical lines along the upper lip
- Marionette lines from the corners of the mouth downward
- Chin lines
The lines disappear as the face relaxes naturally, but dynamic creases can still exist and become more pronounced as we age.
A selection of formulas for truly customized results
At Blush, we know the best results come from personalized attention, a thorough consultation, and education. While the 3 formulas of neurotoxin are all botulinum toxin serotype A products, they are not interchangeable. Before administering any treatments, we have a 30-minute meeting to discuss your entire health history and family health history.
- Botox
- Dysport
- Xeomin
Dysport, Botox, and Xeomin are all muscle relaxers, and like all medications, your provider will choose a specific one based on your health history, your bone structure, metabolism, or your desired result.
The different formulas each typically last anywhere from 3–6 months, depending upon where they’re injected and your body’s unique chemistry. We’re able to monitor how you do with one brand and adjust accordingly at your next appointment if a different formula may give results more suited to your needs.
While Botox’s popularity and amount of time in the US market has made most patients familiar with it already, many do not know about the more recent additions of Dysport and Xeomin.
Learn More: Xeomin vs Botox vs Dysport
What is Dysport?
Dysport is a neuromodulator formula the FDA approved in 2009 as a safe, effective treatment to eliminate unwanted frown lines and forehead wrinkles. Dysport’s formulation is thin and excels at targeting moderate to severe glabellar wrinkles between the eyebrows. Most patients notice results from Dysport within a few days of injections.
Botox vs Dysport
Both Dysport and Botox block muscle contractions to smooth the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. They’re both derived from botulinum toxins, which are safe in small amounts. Each formula is designed to suit specific areas and needs. While the FDA approved Botox for treating forehead lines, crow’s feet, and glabellar lines, Dysport’s only “on-label” use is to treat glabellar lines. Dysport is a more diluted version of the botulinum toxin, so it spreads more quickly than Botox, which leads to patients noticing results more quickly.
What is Xeomin?
The FDA approved Xeomin in 2011 for the cosmetic treatment of glabellar lines as well as the treatment of adults with cervical dystonia (a painful condition causing neck muscles to involuntarily contract). The formula has been successfully used in Europe for more than 20 years, proving its safety and efficacy. In fact, the US is the 20th country to approve Xeomin. This formula does not contain accessory proteins and can be stored at room temperature, in a refrigerator, or in a freezer prior to use.
Botox vs Xeomin
The lack of accessory proteins is the main difference between Botox and Xeomin. By delivering the botulinum toxin without any accessory protein additives, Xeomin helps prevent antibody resistance which can occur with other formulas. Another major difference is the fact that Botox must be stored in a refrigerator prior to use, so it lacks some of the flexibility of Xeomin.
Injection sites for neurotoxins
While your provider targets specific sites for injection on your unique facial movements, the general injection sites for neurotoxins include:
- When injected in specific areas of the upper lip, Botox can lessen the look of a “gummy” smile or offer a subtle and natural enhancement to the upper lip.
- Injectors place neurotoxin strategically at the corners of the mouth to soften smile lines.
- Neuromodulator injections in the chin smooth the look of a dimpled chin.
- When injected into the upper eyebrow, Botox relaxes the muscles responsible for drooping upper eyelids.
- With careful placement at the outer corners of the eyes, injectors can reduce crow’s feet.
- Neurotoxins injected at the sides of the nose lessen and prevent bunny lines.
- Treating the area between the eyebrows smooths out the “11” lines that form there.
- Forehead injections easily treat horizontal wrinkles along the brow
Questions to ask your provider before getting neurotoxin injections near Toledo
What are your qualifications?
This should be the first question you ask at any consultation for neurotoxin injections. If a provider cannot readily supply their licensing information, tell you about their ongoing education protocols, or show before/after photos, leave and contact Blush Aesthetics instead!
Are there any side effects from Botox injections? Will they hurt?
Everyone reacts differently to facial injections with neuromodulators like Botox. However, it’s important to know that there are no significant risks or pain associated with neurotoxins.
You can go right back to your daily routine after your appointment, and most patients report feeling minimal discomfort during the injections. That said, we recommend planning your appointment at a time that you can go home and lie down for a few hours in case you experience redness or swelling.
Will my results look natural?
Pay attention to your injector’s before-and-after patient photos. Do the results they provide look too subtle, too obvious, or just right? If your philosophy and goals don’t match at the outset, it’s likely they will not satisfy you with the results they produce.
The key to natural-looking results is taking a conservative treatment approach and careful placement of the injections. You want to smooth and prevent dynamic wrinkles, not freeze your expressions!
The physician at Blush Aesthetics helps our patients achieve their best look, while still appearing just like themselves.
How much do neurotoxin injections near Toledo cost?
Make sure you know exactly what you will spend by the end of your consultation.
The cost of wrinkle treatment injections in Toledo at Blush Aesthetics largely depends on how much product we are injecting and where we are injecting. Different areas of the face require vastly different amounts of product to effectively treat. At your initial consultation with us, we will provide you with the exact amount of product you’ll need to purchase to achieve the final look you are after.
Neurotoxin injections near Toledo: A review
Blush Aesthetics offers three neurotoxin injections near Toledo in order to effectively meet the needs of our patients. We take a thorough health history before administering any injections, because these formulas are medications and, like any other, it’s important to consider contraindications.
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all Botulinum Toxin Type A neuromodulators with slightly differing formulas. The FDA has approved each for the cosmetic treatment of facial wrinkles, particularly frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.
Xeomin stands out from the other two because it contains no accessory proteins, which could benefit patients who have developed antibody resistance to Botox or Dysport injections. Our injectors have actually found the Dysport and Xeomin formulas more effective than traditional Botox for many of our patients.
