Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating.
While normal perspiration helps your body regulate temperature, hyperhidrosis occurs when your sweat glands lack an “off” switch. These overactive glands—usually in the underarms, palms, and feet—create sweat even when you’re still and cool. This can lead to those all-too-familiar feelings of embarrassment or discomfort, but we’re here to help.
At Blush Aesthetics, we recognize 2 types of hyperhidrosis:
1. Primary Focal Hyperhidrosis
This is the most common type our specialists see at Blush Aesthetics. Primary hyperhidrosis is often hereditary and isn’t linked to underlying medical conditions. Essentially, your body signals your sweat glands to perspire for no known reason.
Botox is FDA-approved for underarm sweat reduction. In Columbus, our team carefully injects this neurotoxin to “calm” these overactive glands by blocking the chemical that activates sweat production. This significantly reduces excess perspiration in targeted areas while allowing normal sweating across the rest of the body—helping you feel beautiful, dry, and confident.
2. Secondary Generalized Hyperhidrosis
Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition, such as menopause, diabetes, or thyroid disease.
One of the easiest ways to identify the difference is night sweats. Primary hyperhidrosis typically “rests” while you are sleeping. If your sweating continues through the night, you likely have secondary hyperhidrosis, and we recommend seeing your primary care physician.
We do not treat secondary generalized hyperhidrosis with Botox. During your personalized consultation for sweat reduction in Columbus, our skin specialists thoroughly discuss your medical history. If your symptoms may stem from an underlying medical condition, we are happy to refer you to a primary care physician or a dermatologist for specialized care.
