What is Brazilian laser hair reduction?
Brazilian laser hair reduction in Columbus is a safe and noninvasive hair removal method that reduces future hair growth in the intimate areas, including the:
- Labia: The labia are the delicate inner folds of skin that protect the vulva. This includes the larger outer labia majora and the smaller inner labia minora. Hair here is typically coarser and denser than that on the rest of the body.
- Perianal: The perianal is the skin between the buttocks, with hair that is sparser and finer than on the labia.
We recommend Brazilian laser hair reduction in Columbus over shaving, tweezing, or waxing. The skin in the labia and perianal area is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the body, making it prone to irritation and infections.
This hair reduction method reduces side effects common with traditional tools.
- Eliminates Ingrown Hairs: Caused by friction from clothing, waxing, or shaving, ingrown hairs grow incorrectly and get trapped under the skin, leading to uncomfortable bumps or cysts. By stopping hair growth at the follicle, laser hair reduction prevents ingrown hairs from forming.
- Prevents “Razor Burn”: Shaving or waxing irritates the delicate skin of the labia by creating tiny cuts or increasing the risk of burns. Laser hair removal protects the skin, minimizing irritation for more comfortable hair reduction.
- Easily Gets Every Hair: While it can be difficult to see—and reach—hair in intimate areas, our laser technicians easily treat the entire labia and perianal for comprehensive reduction.
How does laser hair reduction work?
In a process called selective polythermolysis, specialized laser wavelengths target the melanin (pigment) in your hair. Your follicles absorb this light energy and transform it into heat, damaging themselves in the process and discouraging future hair growth.
By disrupting the follicle’s ability to grow hair, laser hair reduction boasts long-term results with minimal treatment time (something razors and waxing can’t say). The result? Hair-free skin perfect for the beach or the bedroom.
The Hair Growth Cycle
Laser hair reduction is only effective during certain stages of the hair growth cycle. That’s why it takes multiple treatments—individual hair follicles are in different phases. The 4 hair growth stages are:
- Anagen: your hair is actively growing and firmly attached to your hair follicles. These follicles rapidly produce keratin, forming visible hair strands. New keratin pushes old keratin up and out, and your hair lengthens.
- Catagen: During this “transition stage,” the bulb, or root of your hair, detaches from the follicle as it shrinks, halting hair growth. Only 1% to 3% of hair is in the catagen stage at a time.
- Telogen: This is the resting phase where hair doesn’t grow, but doesn’t shed either. While some experts group this stage and the exogen stage, they’re widely considered two separate stages. Approximately 9% of hair follicles are in this stage.
- Exogen: As new hair emerges, old hair sheds. On average, people lose 50 to 100 strands of hair each day during this phase.
Around 85% to 90% of your hair follicles are in the anagen stage. Scheduling follow-up appointments for Brazilian laser hair reduction in Columbus ensures we treat every hair follicle at the correct growth phase. In the meantime, you’ll notice your hair beginning to grow back thinner or lighter until we’ve completed treatment.

Enter: The OMNI
At Blush Aesthetics, we help our patients look and feel their best. To do that, we offer Sciton’s OMNI laser.
With one of the industry’s largest spot sizes, this device for Brazilian laser hair reduction in Columbus retains the precision required for smaller, hard-to-reach areas on the body, like the labia and perianal, while reducing treatment time on larger areas of the body.
With the OMNI’s multiple laser wavelengths, we can customize treatment to best suit the needs of each patient. Safe for all skin tones on the Fitzpatrick Skin-Type Chart and effective on lighter hair, this technology offers a solution for those who were previously told they weren’t candidates for laser hair reduction. Note: lighter or finer hair may require more sessions than darker colors.

Benefits of Laser Hair Reduction
At Blush Aesthetics, we have seen our fair share of laser technologies. In fact, our founder, Erin Hennessey, works directly with the leading manufacturers of these technologies, designing protocols and training other practices across the country on how to use them safely and effectively.
Of all of the many options for laser hair reduction, we’ve selected the OMNI as the best option for our patients.
Over 6 to 20 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, you can kiss ingrown hair and razor burns goodbye.
The OMNI is more than just a device for Brazilian laser hair reduction in Columbus. It can also address unwanted hair on your:
- Legs
- Chest & back
- Arms & underarms
- Face
- Neck
While laser hair reduction is not permanent, it is an effective long-term hair management tool. While some patients may experience halted hair growth, your body eventually repairs damaged follicles and restarts the hair growth process. This hair should be thinner and finer, making it less noticeable and easier to remove with maintenance appointments.

See It For Yourself
Reading about the benefits of laser hair reduction is one thing, and seeing the results yourself is another. With just under a decade of service to our patients in Perrysburg and Columbus, we’ve got more than a fair share of amazing results.
Am I a good candidate for laser hair reduction?
The best thing about the OMNI is that it’s fast, effective, and safe for all skin types and tones. If you’re looking for long-lasting hair reduction and are ready to ditch waxing, shaving, or tweezing, this treatment is for you.
That said, at Blush, patient safety is paramount. We do not recommend laser hair reduction for patients who have the following conditions:
- Currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- History of melanoma or other skin cancers
- History of keloids or hypertrophic scarring
- Active infections or open wounds near the treatment area
- Autoimmune disorders like lupus, scleroderma, or vitiligo
- Certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis or eczema
We also ask patients to refrain from the following before their appointment:
- 1 week: Waxing, plucking, or electrolysis in the treatment area
- 2 weeks: Excess sun exposure or sunburns
- 4 weeks: Other aesthetic procedures, such as chemical peels or facial lasers
- 6 weeks: Photosensitizing drugs (like Accutane), certain antidepressants, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin or ibuprofen

If laser hair reduction is the next step for you, we can schedule your appointment.
Pre-Care
Yes, you will have a bit of homework! To ensure optimal results in advance of your laser hair reduction appointment:
- Shave the night before or the morning of. Long hair can increase the risk of burns and prevent the light waves from targeting your hair follicles.
- Do not apply makeup, lotions, or other skincare products the day of your appointment, as these can diminish results.
- Remove metallic or reflective jewelry near the treatment area. This includes earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and anklets. When in doubt, just ask one of our experts—they’re happy to help!
Your Appointment
Our welcoming staff will greet you upon arrival and escort you to your treatment room. Once you’re comfortable on our treatment beds, they cleanse the targeted skin to remove dirt, oils, makeup, or skincare products that may interfere with the OMNI.
Once both you and your provider put on protective eyewear, they begin clearing away unwanted hair at the source. During your appointment, our staff talks you through every step of the process to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. You may feel some heat from the device, but not the rubber band-like snap of traditional devices. The OMNI’s sapphire cooling tip helps minimize discomfort and protects the surrounding skin from thermal damage.
Once we’ve thoroughly treated the area, you can remove your protective eyewear. Your skin may be slightly red or sensitive to the touch, which should subside in a few hours. We recommend applying a cool compress or soothing gel to reduce any swelling, redness, or discomfort that may occur.
Post-Care
Protecting your skin after treatment keeps it healthy and beautiful. We recommend patients:
- Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning beds, especially after laser hair reduction. We always recommend applying SPF 30+ sunscreen indoors and outside to protect against UV damage, but your skin is extra sensitive after laser hair reduction. (Don’t have a preferred sunscreen on hand? Shop our medical-grade skincare products.)
- Avoid harsh or exfoliating products that can irritate skin for the first 3 to 10 days after laser hair reduction. Instead, keep skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer to alleviate dryness and irritation.
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, or intense workouts for 24 to 48 hours after your treatment. You may take a cool shower 6 to 8 hours after your session—any sooner could cause infection or irritation.
Results
You should expect to enjoy smooth, hair-free skin for 6 to 12 months after your laser hair removal treatment series. When you notice new hair emerging, schedule a maintenance session at your local Blush Aesthetics—and pair it with other treatments for your convenience.
