Botox vs Fillers in Toledo

BOTOX® vs Fillers: What’s the Difference?

Do you dream of aging gracefully? Have changes in your facial contours or skin texture made your reflection unrecognizable? Women and men across the world turn to cosmetic injectables every day to turn back the clock on aging and restore youthful vibrancy to their skin. But in the battle of Botox vs fillers in Toledo, which is the right choice for you?

As it turns out, there’s no battle at all! Botox, as well as similar injectable neuromodulators, pair beautifully with dermal fillers. At Blush Aesthetics in Toledo and Ottawa Hills, we’re happy to develop custom treatment plans for our patients that include both filler and Botox to combat aging and keep skin smooth and plump.

The difference between BOTOX and fillers

People often assume Botox and dermal fillers are the same thing, or at least treat the exact same thing, but that’s not true at all! These treatments are totally different from one another and produce different outcomes with different recovery times.

BOTOX in Northwest Ohio

Botox is a specially formulated neuromodulator (also called a neurotoxin) that targets the muscles beneath the skin. What do your facial muscles have to do with wrinkles? Over time, repeated facial expressions (such as laughing or frowning) create wrinkles in the skin.

Botox is injected to temporarily relax those muscles, softening the appearance of wrinkles. The neuromodulator works by blocking certain chemical signals from your nerves, mostly those that cause muscles to contract.

Dermal fillers in Northwest Ohio

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin. We use fillers made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that keeps skin plump and hydrated. Fillers can be used in a variety of facial areas—as well as hands—to restore volume, softening the look of wrinkles and giving skin a youthful bounciness.

Dermal fillers are popular to plump and enhance lips or improve symmetry. You can add volume to your pout or diminish vertical lip lines—with the skilled injectors at Blush, the sky’s the limit!

Static wrinkles vs dynamic wrinkles

As stated above, Botox and dermal fillers are made with different ingredients, are injected differently, and act differently to produce their results. What does that mean in practice, though? The main difference between Botox and dermal fillers can be summed up through the types of wrinkles they treat: Filler treats static wrinkles, Botox treats dynamic wrinkles.

Static wrinkles are the lines that appear along the neck, across the cheeks, and at the corners of the mouth. They start small but deepen over time and never go away. Caused by a natural loss of elasticity and collagen, without intervention static wrinkles will get deeper and more noticeable. Often, the static wrinkles people are most bothered by include:

  • Nasolabial folds from the nose to the corner of your mouth
  • Marionette lines from the edge of your mouth to the jawline
  • Tear trough lines under the inside corner of your eye
  • Lateral cheek lines that appear behind smile lines
  • Lines across the neck

Dynamic wrinkles are lines that appear when you make specific facial movements or expressions. Over time and repeated expressions, these lines become static wrinkles as they are permanently etched into your skin, even when your muscles are relaxed. Dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Mid-cheek smile lines
  • Lip lines

So you just have to ask yourself whether your wrinkles disappear when your face is relaxed, or if they’re always there. Once you understand the difference between dynamic and static wrinkles, it’s easy to understand why we have to take different approaches to treat them.

Injectables: Medicine meets art

Our selection of injectables comes from a variety of different companies and have different characteristics. It’s this selection that allows us to tailor treatments to each patient’s needs.

It also allows us to fully utilize our expertise. For instance, did you know you need to use fillers with different molecular weights depending on where in the face they’re being injected? You want something with a heavier molecular weight in the chin and jaw area, compared to something we would use around the crow’s feet. That’s why we offer the selection we do!

Questions to ask your provider before receiving fillers in Toledo

What are your qualifications?

This should be the first question you ask at any consultation for dermal fillers. If a provider cannot readily supply their licensing information, tell you about their ongoing education protocols, and show before/after photos, leave and contact Blush Aesthetics instead!

Are there any side effects from fillers? Will it hurt?

Everyone reacts differently to facial injections like fillers. However, it’s important to know that there are no significant risks or pain associated with fillers.

You can go right back to your daily routine after your filler appointment, and most patients report feeling minimal discomfort during the injections. That said, we do recommend planning your appointment at a time that you can go home and lie down for a few hours in case you experience redness or swelling.

Will my fillers look natural?

Pay attention to your injector’s before-and-after patient photos. Do the results he or she provides look too subtle, too obvious, or just right? If your philosophy and goals don’t match at the outset, it’s likely they will not satisfy you with the results they produce.

The key to natural-looking fillers is taking a conservative treatment approach. You want to subtly enhance your features and smooth your skin—not look like an entirely different person or have anyone guess that you have “had work done.”

The physician at Blush Aesthetics helps our patients achieve their best look, while still appearing just like themselves.

How much do fillers in Toledo cost?

Make sure you know exactly what you will spend by the end of your consultation.

The cost of fillers in Toledo at Blush Aesthetics largely depends on how much product we are injecting and where we are injecting.

Fillers are administered and sold by the syringe. At your initial consultation with us, we will provide you with the exact amount of filler you’ll need to purchase to achieve the final look you are after.

BOTOX and other neuromodulators

To diminish the effects of aging and to prevent lines, wrinkles, and lax skin from forming on the forehead and upper face, we are proud to offer Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin to our patients.

This anti-aging procedure provides amazing results and is popular among both men and women. Botox in Toledo can make a dramatic difference in the appearance of dynamic facial wrinkles.

The lines disappear as the face relaxes, but dynamic creases can still exist. Botox is a purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the underlying tissue and muscle. To diminish the appearance of these dynamic lines and wrinkles, nurse practitioners inject neuromodulators to relax and soften the skin. This specific injection is most commonly placed between the brows where the number “11” appears, on the crow’s feet, and throughout the forehead.

BOTOX vs Dysport

Both Dysport and Botox are types of neurotoxins that block muscle contractions. They’re both derived from botulinum toxins, which are safe in small amounts. Each formula is designed to suit specific areas and needs. Dysport is a more diluted version of the botulinum toxin so it spreads more quickly than Botox. This makes it ideal for larger surface areas.

BOTOX vs Xeomin

Another purified neurotoxin, the main difference between Xeomin and Botox is that Xeomin contains a “naked” form of botulinum toxin. Botox, on the other hand, contains accessory proteins. Xeomin also has fewer storage restrictions than Botox.

Three formulas for the most customized treatment possible

Although Dysport, Botox and Xeomin are all muscle relaxers, your provider may choose a specific one based on your health history, your bone structure, metabolism, or your desired result. Although they all do a great job, just like other medications, one may be a better fit than another based on your provider’s assessment.

BOTOX vs Fillers in Toledo: A review

The first thing we learned is there’s no fight between Botox and dermal fillers! They treat different signs of aging, are injected differently, and are made from different materials. We use fillers alongside Botox all of the time in our Toledo and Ottawa Hills medical spas! Sometimes when administered in the same appointment, it’s referred to as a “liquid facelift.” These are popular because they provide gorgeous, natural-looking results that make you appear much younger without the need for surgery.
