Prime candidates have likely followed physician-led diet plans, exercise regimens, and medications to lose weight and haven’t seen any success. For many patients, the main goal of semaglutide is to jumpstart their energy to be more active and exercise.

What is semaglutide, really?

At Blush, you can rest assured that we will always give you the whole picture before you make any treatment decisions. Semaglutide is a weight management medication that patients self-administer through injections.

Semaglutide is a Glucose-like Peptide (GLP-1) inhibitor that helps you lose weight by:

Telling your brain that you’re full

️ Helping your pancreas release insulin when blood sugar levels are high, converting your blood sugar into energy

Slowing down the digestion process so your stomach feels full for longer

What is the process for getting a weight loss shot in Toledo?

The most common way of getting ahold of semaglutide is going through your primary care physician. If you’ve done any research, you might have let out a long sigh after running into the following obstacles:

  • Insurance often doesn’t cover the medication; the out-of-pocket cost is $2,600
  • Your PCP does not/will not prescribe semaglutide

Even though you may run into these issues, we often encourage our patients with comorbidities to first meet with their PCP anyway, on the off-chance their insurance decides to be extra nice. If it is, great! If not, we’re here!

So, with all of this, you have two options: pay for semaglutide out-of-pocket or bring your beautiful self to Blush, where it’ll be way more cost-effective! The choice is yours

The consultation

If you’re ready to learn more about your semaglutide candidacy, we’ll schedule a consultation with our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Michelle (she’s absolutely wonderful, by the way). No need to worry about commuting, because our entire weight loss program can be online via telehealth.

We want to make the most of your time and allow you the flexibility to schedule appointments over your lunch break. However, if you do want to come into the office, you’re more than welcome!

During your consultation, Michelle will ask you about your journey and struggles with weight loss, your current lifestyle and habits, your medical history, and any relevant family medical history. She’ll also ask you about any emotional triggers for weight loss so she can best serve you, empathetically.

We ask that you’re honest with us so we can make sure you’re a good candidate for semaglutide and so we can best customize your weight loss plan. Next stop: ordering your lab work to test your A1C levels.

Your customized semaglutide plan

Once our team reviews your lab results and ensures your candidacy, we’ll begin building your custom care plan for your weight loss shot in Toledo. Before diving into treatment, you’ll meet with Michelle again to talk about your plan and she’ll answer any questions you have.

Custom dosage

Besides our treatment being $2,300 less (a month!) than going through a PCP, another aspect that sets us apart is our ability to customize your dosage based on your needs. When we develop your treatment plan, we send your unique script to a compounding pharmacy.

What makes a compounding pharmacy special? The pharmacists have the freedom and expertise to combine ingredients in-house to meet an individual patient’s needs. Due to the ingredient customizability, your script will look different from any other patient’s script.

For our patients, we compound their unique dosage of semaglutide with vitamin B12 to boost energy levels. By the way, these pharmacies are not a free-for-all; they are FDA-approved, accredited facilities that require a legitimate prescription by licensed healthcare providers.

Shipped to your door

Once we’ve decided on your dosage and sent your script to the compounding pharmacy, your semaglutide will be delivered to your doorstep as per Ohio Board of Pharmacy laws in just a few business days! Everyone say thank you to modern-day shipping speed

Beginning treatment

We always recommend our patients begin treatment on a Friday. This allows them to test the waters with semaglutide and see how their body reacts over the weekend. If you have no issues, woohoo! You can keep it up throughout the work week!

Since we appropriately dose patients based on their needs and tolerances, we rarely receive reports of side effects. To further reduce the chances of experiencing side effects, we recommend avoiding alcohol and foods high in sugar and fat. Alcohol reduces the intrinsic factor in your body, which is important for absorbing vitamin B12. Fatty foods are difficult for your body to digest, sometimes resulting in more gastrointestinal side effects.

Semaglutide injections

Semaglutide is an injectable medication that you’ll self-administer in your thigh, stomach, or upper arm once a day. Don’t worry—we’ll teach you how to perform the injections! Also, you’ll want to inject in a different area each time to give each injection site a break.

Your other option is coming to Blush for complimentary injections. If you can’t/don’t want to inject yourself, come on in and we’ll do it for you in just a couple seconds! No judgment here We just want you to feel comfortable.

Diet and exercise recommendations

Alongside your dosage, Michelle will provide further support by recommending protein- and vitamin-rich diet changes, portion sizes to stick to, and a fitness regimen to follow. semaglutide works best when used in conjunction with healthy habits.

Ongoing support

Your progress and happiness is our priority! To make sure you’re on the right track and you’re seeing results, you’ll meet with Michelle monthly. You can talk about your experiences, any progress you’ve noticed, and any concerns you may have. Michelle will also be sure to ask you the right questions to get your brain working

How long is the program for a weight loss shot in Toledo?

We plan our patient programs for anywhere between 6 and 9 months. This will depend on factors like your experiences with weight loss and any prevalent health issues. After this time period, we may suggest maintenance injections once or twice per month.

To keep it really real, this treatment is lifelong for some patients. We can discuss what treatment will look like for you during your consultation
