Weight struggles often carry a considerable amount of emotional baggage. This takes the form of shame, sadness, disappointment, and embarrassment––all of which we wish didn’t affect us! If you’ve tried everything to lose weight, we’re talking to you.
At Blush Aesthetics, we are overjoyed to finally offer our patients a solution that works: semaglutide! As a weight management clinic in Toledo, we’re going to answer (hopefully) all of your questions about semaglutide. Here we go!
What is semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a Glucose-like Peptide (GLP-1) inhibitor used to lower A1C, lower the risk of major cardiovascular events (e.g. stroke, heart attack), and help people lose weight.
How does it work?
Semaglutide releases signals in your body to:
- Tell your brain that you are full
- Help your pancreas release insulin when blood sugar levels are high; sugar from your blood is converted to energy
- Slow down the digestion process, allowing you to feel full longer
Am I a candidate for semaglutide?
You are a possible candidate for our weight management clinic in Toledo if you:
- Have an elevated A1C (5.7% and above)
- Have an obesity diagnosis/have a BMI of 30 or higher
- Struggle to lose weight with other modalities (e.g. aerobic exercise, consuming fewer calories)
- Have comorbidities (e.g. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes)
- Don’t have health insurance
Who isn’t a candidate for semaglutide in Toledo?
We unfortunately can’t prescribe semaglutide for patients who have:
- Ongoing care with a cardiologist
- Undergone gastrointestinal surgeries
- A history of thyroid issues
- Ulcerative colitis
- Crohn’s disease
How do I take semaglutide?
This medication is self-administered through injections, typically in your upper arm, stomach, or thigh. We’ll show you how to do it, then you’ll take it into your own hands
How long does semaglutide take to work?
When using semaglutide for weight loss, results are different for everyone. Some of our patients start seeing results within a few weeks, while for others it takes a few months. How quickly you see results will depend on some of your lifestyle choices, like what you’re eating and whether or not you’re exercising. Our incredible Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Michelle can help you make some of these difficult lifestyle changes!
How much does it cost?
If you were to get semaglutide from a traditional pharmacy, you would likely spend around $2,600 a month, because semaglutide is rarely covered by insurance. But at Blush, we process semaglutide through a compounding pharmacy, so it only costs around $300 a month.
How long will I have to take semaglutide?
We won’t sugarcoat it; for some people this is a lifelong medication. For others, treatment may last anywhere between 6 and 9 months. We’ll be able to get a better idea of your treatment timeline with a consultation.
Where can I get the medication?
Through us But actually, when we build your treatment plan and send your script to the accredited compounding pharmacy, the medication will get shipped straight to your door! Yep, you can have an online weight loss program and the meds shipped right to you for ultimate convenience.
Are there any side effects?
We offer such optimized, low, and controlled doses of semaglutide for weight loss that we rarely hear complaints about side effects from our patients. The side effects commonly reported by semaglutide patients elsewhere tend to be gastrointestinal issues, like nausea, vomiting, and constipation. If you experience any of this, we can alter your treatment as necessary!
