How does laser hair removal work?
This is a great question, and the answer explains a lot about the limitations of laser hair removal! You may have heard the absolute best candidates for laser hair removal are those with fair skin and dark hair. This is because the laser light targets pigment, which absorbs the light and converts it to heat that damages the follicle and inhibits future growth.
So, performing laser hair removal on dark skin or light hair isn’t always possible or effective. That said, the technology has advanced a great deal over the years! For those with darker skin or lighter hair, don’t rule yourself out without checking into things if you are interested in laser hair removal.
We will always have a skin consultation with you before scheduling your laser hair removal treatments in Toledo and Perrysburg; that way we’re confident you’re getting the best treatments for your needs.
The cycle of hair growth
Most people know laser hair reduction is a great way to permanently lessen hair growth. However, many don’t understand hair grows in cycles, and laser hair removal is only effective during the first stage of growth.
To account for those stages, we strategically schedule laser hair removal treatments 2-4 weeks apart, depending on which area you are treating. Let’s explore that hair growth cycle a little more.
The growth phase
The growth phase is known as anagen. Cells in the root area of the hair rapidly divide, causing the hair to grow. Hair follicles are most receptive to the laser at this point because they are rich in protein and melanin. As we mentioned above, that melanin is what absorbs the laser and produces heat to damage the follicle. About 85% of the hair follicles are in the anagen phase at any time.
The transition phase
After the anagen phase, follicles enter catagen, the transition phase. The hair stops growing at this point. Catagen lasts only 2-3 weeks and only about 5% of body hair will be in catagen phase at any given time.
The resting phase
The third and final phase of hair growth is telogen, the resting phase. This is the point in which the hair begins to shed, and the cycle restarts. Healthy head hairs remain in telogen for about 100 days, but other parts of the body have significant variation in how long telogen lasts. About 10% of follicles are in telogen at any given time.
Because hair follicles are only susceptible to lasers during anagen, we have to schedule multiple laser hair removal treatments set a few weeks apart. This allows us to catch the follicles during the right phase of the cycle.

What to expect for your laser hair removal with Blush
Step One: Consultation
First, you’ll meet with one of our specialists to discuss your goals and how a Quanta Light Evo treatment can help. Your specialist will examine the areas of your body you’d like to treat and determine the best course of treatment. If you do not have a tan or self tanning lotion on, your treatments can commence the same day as your consultation if you would like.
Step Two: Treatment
During your treatment, the device will focus light onto unwanted DARK (not gray or white) hair follicles, damaging the follicle and reducing the chance of future growth.
Step Three: Aftercare
After your treatments are complete, we will discuss the percentage of reduction and adjust your treatment accordingly. Additionally, we like to learn about additional ways we can help you look and feel your best.
Why try Quanta Light Evo in Toledo?
Laser hair removal with the Quanta Light Evo is a whole different ball game from traditional laser hair removal! This laser uses advanced technology that delivers a cooling pulse and protects your skin from overexposure to the laser and heat.
The tool also covers a larger area than before, meaning we can treat you quicker than ever. Despite this, we can still focus on small, sensitive, and hard-to-reach areas with the Quanta Light Evo.
Even though most patients find treatment with this laser quite comfortable, we do offer pain control for anyone who feels discomfort.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
We don’t want to ruffle any feathers here, but no. Laser hair removal is not typically a permanent solution for preventing hair growth. Frankly, there is not a permanent solution that prevents hair growth. Laser hair removal treatments in Toledo can destroy follicles, leaving you with far less hair growth in the area permanently. But most follicles are damaged by laser hair removal, which puts them into a very long state of dormancy.
Sometimes you can go years without noticing regrowth. Most people find maintaining their results is easy with yearly maintenance treatments.
Can I do laser hair removal treatments at home?
There are a ton of home devices marketed to perform laser hair removal just like we do at our med spa. That’s obviously not quite true.
There are a lot of things to keep in mind when you’re considering buying a laser hair removal device for your home versus getting professional treatments. For starters, they’re not as effective. Home devices require higher levels of safety because the people using them aren’t trained.
Home devices also are usually TINY with ITTY BITTY laser windows. Think 6 pulses or more per square inch of skin. Like, that’s a lot. And when you’re at home, you probably don’t have the same pain management capabilities as a med spa. You certainly won’t have a device with the cooling technology of our Quanta Light Evo.
So, no, we don’t generally recommend spending your hard-earned cash on a home laser device. If you want expert care, guaranteed results, and a comfortable experience, get your laser hair removal treatment in Toledo from Blush!
What have we learned about laser hair removal?
Professional technicians perform laser hair removal with advanced laser technology that targets the pigment in hair follicles, producing heat and damaging the follicle.
Laser hair removal is only effective when hair follicles are in anagen, the growth phase. We schedule multiple appointments several weeks apart to account for the hair follicles being in different cycles.
The Quanta Light Evo laser is more comfortable thanks to the cooling shot it delivers with each pulse of the laser light.
We perform laser hair removal pretty much anywhere on the body, even small and sensitive areas.
Laser hair removal is the most permanent hair removal option, but it’s still not 100% permanent. Damaged follicles eventually will grow hair again, but those that are destroyed will not regenerate. Most patients notice a permanent reduction in hair growth, not a permanent removal of hair.
