The Best Lip Filler for Beautiful results

We have all seen the results of lip filler gone wrong – over-sized pouts, "duck face" and voluminous lips that just do not fit with the rest of the person's face. An enhanced, natural look is possible in the hands of an experienced provider like Blush Aesthetics who knows the right filler for each patient's needs, where to put it and when to say "stop."

Lip fillers can plump, shape, hydrate, and smooth lips. The procedure can also be used to fill in smoker's lines, which are fine vertical lines around the lips. When done correctly, lip augmentation with the use of injectable fillers achieves quick results with minimal downtime.

Who can Benefit From Lip Fillers?

Thin or asymmetrical lips may not pose a health risk, but they can impact a person's self-esteem.

Perhaps a person was simply born genetically predisposed to thin or uneven lips. Or, in many cases, the shape and volume of the lips have become thinner and less distinctive with age. Sun damage and smoking can also cause thinning of the lips as well as wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth.

Maybe you are just looking for a little extra "oomph!" Lip filler is injected into specific parts of the lips to create a fuller shape that enhances and flatters your face.

What are the Best Lip Fillers?

Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® are two of the most popular and best lip filler options. Both are dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid, which has a "plumping" effect that is useful for wrinkles and volumizing the lips. They also contain lidocaine to numb lips and dull pain during the injection process.

Side effects or changes in appearance over time are rare compared to other fillers.

While both Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® fillers have the same essential ingredients, there are differences in terms of use, cost, and potential side effects. Depending on your personal goals, we may recommend one over the other.

JUVÉDERM® for Lips

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is specifically for lip augmentation while JUVÉDERM® Volbella XC is used for vertical "smoker's" lip lines, as well as for adding lip volume.

  • JUVÉDERM® lip results are typically instant.
  • JUVÉDERM® results last about one year.

Restylane® for Lips

Restylane® Silk was the first FDA-approved lip filler. It is specially formulated for the lip area and can be used for lip augmentation and for smoothing lip lines.

  • Restylane® takes a few days to achieve its full results.
  • Restylane® results generally last about ten months.

The "Lip Flip" With Neuromodulators

For patients who are not ready to fully use lip filler, Blush offers a treatment option that uses a small amount of Botox® or Dysport® neuromodulator in the top lip to elevate, smooth, and relax the muscle for a younger, fuller appearance.

Are There any Side Effects to Lip Fillers?

Minor side effects such as swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site are not uncommon. They will usually disappear within a week.

Your side effects and recovery will depend on your individualized treatment, including the volume of filler used and whether you are treating fine lines or wrinkles around the lips.

What Should I Expect During my Lip Filler Treatment?

Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® are considered outpatient procedures and are performed in just a few minutes at our offices.

After we numb the lips and the area around the mouth, you will likely feel a small needle prick and slight pressure as we inject the filler. When the injection process is over, you may experience a dull throbbing. The doctor will then massage or apply ice or a cold compress to help combat any swelling.

Most of the swelling will subside within a few days, and then you will be able to see the results of your treatment.

Who is a Good Candidate for Lip Fillers?

Anyone who would like fuller lips, more symmetrical lips or reduced smoker's lines may be a candidate for lip fillers. Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® lip treatments have FDA approval and are considered safe for most people.

Anyone with allergies to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine; inflammatory skin conditions, such as psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea; or bleeding disorders should avoid Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® and explore other lip enhancement options.

At your Blush consultation, we will discuss your medical history and potential risk factors to make sure your treatment is safe and gives you the results you desire.
